We recently acquired this wooden keepsake box with a lovely red stain and aged patina on its brass hardware.
We were surprised to find it had some vintage newspaper clippings inside.
Who put them there? Why did they put them there? I guess we will never know for sure…
Apparently the first one is the Scottish equivalent to the song Auld Lang Syne.
The second is a poem written by James Metcalf that was published in several newspapers under a syndicated column feature in 1959.
We love that we never know what treasures we may find, but it’s fun to think about the life that these pieces have had before they found our way to us.
